Focused Work

Radix’s Youth Employment program teaches both practical and intellectual jobs skills. During the first hour, our youth employees maintain and improve our small farm business by building, composting, digging, planting, mulching, and preparing vegetables for sale. During the second hour, we develop literacy and advocacy skills by discussing selected readings. Our readings have covered a range of styles and have included selections from Pope Francis’ encyclical On Care for Our Common Home and Mary Ruefle’s poem “Keeping it Simple.”

This week, our youth employees diverged from reading to reflect on their Radix experiences after a resume discussion and workshop. After 15 minutes of quiet writing time, our Monday and Wednesday groups BOTH chose to stay late to continue writing!

Youth employment is open to all high-school aged youth who live in Albany. Youth interested in applying may send a brief letter of interest to ben@radixcenter.org.
