We believe it is possible to meet human needs while simultaneously restoring ecosystems. Good environmental stewardship is rewarded by better health, wholesome food, and strong communities.

Since September of 2011, thousands of  people have visited the Radix Center through organized workshops, class trips, open houses, and casual drop-ins. Classes from the Albany Montessori Magnet School, the Albany Free School, Thomas O’Brien Academy of Science and Technology (TOAST), Tech Valley High,  Woodland Hill Montessori School, & Albany County Opportunity Inc. Olivia Rorie Head Start have attended workshops at the Radix Center, as well as youth groups from the Albany Howe Library, 15Love, Youth Organics, Troy Produce Project, Living Resources, and the Siena College High School Scholars Program.   A local 4H group has regular meetings at Radix, and in partnership with Siena College the high school group 4H Earth Club has used Radix.  Through a partnership with RPI groups of public school science teachers have also attended workshops at Radix.

Numerous college students have also attended workshops at the Radix Center, including student groups and classes from Skidmore College, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, the College of Saint Rose, Bloomfield College, the State University of New York at Albany, the College at Oneonta (SUNY), the College at New Paltz (SUNY) & Southern Vermont Community College.  Representatives from the NYS Department of Health, Department of Conservation, Environmental Facilities Corporation, Dormirtory Authority of NY (DASNY), NYS Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), Albany County, and the City Common Council have all toured the Radix Center.

Community Supported Environmental Education Center!

We are offering a limited number of slots to receive greens and eggs and mushrooms grown at Radix over the winter.  It will operate kind of like a CSA – but a little different:

You choose your maximum weekly charge:  $10 , $20,  or $30.

We will fill you an order from what we have available that week.  It will not exceed the amount you’ve chosen.  Unlike a typical CSA, we will only charge you for what we’ve given you each week.  If there is something that you absolutely love, or don’t want, we will honor that.

Sign up now – those who sign up first will get the first dibs on winter produce!

We have and will be planting:

  • Kale
  • Chard
  • Lettuce
  • Daikon radish
  • Sweet red and green peppers
  • Hot Peppers
  • Cherry tomatoes
  • Sorrel
  • Microgreens
  • Pea shoots
  • Watercress
  • Basil
  • Thyme
  • Oregano
  • Sage
  • Rosemary
  • Okra
  • Tomatillo
  • Nasturtium
  • Shitake mushrooms
