My absolute new favorite joke that I say at a kid’s birthday party as I hold out the present to their to parent:

“Do you need a hutch for this bunny?”

Oh  ha ha ha.

This August, we introduced the Thunderbunny to our 2 does.  Living up to their legendary fecundity,  today we found our 4th generation of babies.

Rabbits small, quiet, relatively non-smelly, require little care, and are herbivorous – all of these traits make them appropriate for an urban setting.  We are experimenting with the colonial method, in which rabbits are allowed free access to each other in a large pen, more closely simulating a natural rabbit colony.  So far, it has been working out well.   In our attempt to reduce our dependence on commercial feed, we have been supplementing their diets with waste greens collected by the Community Compost Initiative.   An added bonus, rabbit manure is exceptionally high in nitrogen and unlike other manures can be applied directly to gardens.

Bunnies are available immediately.  Take your pick of pure bred American Chinchilla gray- black speckled, or black, and albino.    Available bunnies were born mid September and mid October.

Meat rabbits will be ready in 2012.  The rabbits are all heritage breeds – either pure American Chinchilla or crossed with a Satin/Flemish Giant.  They are big!  Contact us if you would like to reserve one.   (Many have already been reserved.)
